Every May the racing world descends onto the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, and it is no different in the virtual world.

The iRacing.com Indy 500 is one of the most anticipated of the iRacing Special Events calendar. Nearly 1000 drivers are expected to take part in the event which is broken down into over 30 individual 33 car fields.

Last year I was unable to compete in the race, but I look forward to returning in the Team Oppo DW12 (which I haven’t painted yet). In general, I try to finish better than I did in my last race. That is going to be kind of hard because the last time I competed, I won.

The iRacing Indy 500 is an open setup race meaning that all adjustments are available, and you can set the car up anyway you like as long as it passes tech. Unfortunately for me, I do not have a degree in aeronautical engineering so this is a bit daunting. Thankfully, I still have my race winning set from 2 years ago and can started with that.

After a couple practice sessions the car isn’t quite where it needs to be. Is it raceable - yes, is it competitive, not in my mind. Race set is a bit tight with excessive aero tightness in traffic. Qualifying trim is good, but it is about a half second off pace. Still a long way to go and a lot of work to do.

Is anyone else competing in the 500? Perhaps we will be in the same race. I look forward to seeing you on track.
