Please Note: I am going to reread the official rules to make sure the qualifications of the iRacing Blacpain Endurance Championship are correct. The rules at the bottom may change.
So you and your mates think you can take on the world of endurance racing?
Thankfully your journey is not that long. You do not need to traverse the entire iRacing license system to get to where you want to go (<- That’s not entirely true). But, that doesn’t mean it is going to be easy.
Please note that everything that is not a team championship will have to be accomplished by each member of your team. Also you will need to make sure your team members have similar iRatings because a team’s placement in race splits is the average of all the members’ iRatings. This will assure that you get into the top splits of the qualifying series.
The endurance team championship runs GT3 cars. Each car in the series has its own unique strengths and weaknesses, but they are all relatively equal. Therefore, experience in multi-class racing really isn’t that necessary. For Rookies, either the Mazda Cup or Production car challenge will be sufficient.
Since the GT3 cars are sports cars, I would recommend staying in this area. I would suggest either the Grand Touring Cup or the Cadillac Cup. Both series will get you sports car experience.
The Grand Touring Cup uses less powerful cars than the Cadillac Cup, so I would suggest starting there. For the Grand Touring Cup, I would suggest sticking with the RWD cars (Ford Mustang and Pontiac Solstice) as all GT3 cars are RWD.
The Blancpain endurance series is located here. The GT3 World Championship is decided from the Blancpain GT3 Endurance series, a C Class series. Your team then gets together to compete in the Blancpain Team Endurance Championship where your team competes in 180 minute (3 hour) races. However, according to the official rules, you must attain a Class A license in order to compete in the World Championship. So these next couple of steps will get you to Class A.
For some reason, the Blancpain Sprint series is located here. (I am not sure why). These are 40 minute races that are solo driver contests. This will allow your team members to get individual experience in your car. This will also help get your rating up to Class A.
You have 2 options. Either A) Wait until the end of the 12 week season with all of the minimum participation requirements met, or B) Get your SR above 4.0 and instantly be promoted to Class A.
The iRacing Blancpain Endurance World Championship selects the Top 40 endurance teams of the last season of the year (Season 4). You are allowed to team up with 4 mates throughout the C Class Endurance Championship and those mates continue with you through the World Championship series. Please note that all member must meet the requirements. This series is brand new to iRacing, and has many nuances and rules which are being continuously updated, but will be set once the first contest has happened.
